Great World Residences Completes Refurbishment Works Announces Rebranding

Great World Residences has undergone a brand refresh, previously known as Great World Serviced Apartments. The extensive refurbishment of both apartments and amenities was carried out under the guidance of the internal design team. Since 2019, the team has been revamping the apartments to cater to the changing needs of business travellers.

Darren Cher, senior general manager of Great World Residences, shares that the concept of business travel has evolved over the years. Nowadays, people seek more than just a place to stay; they want a space that is conducive for living, working and connecting. This is why the focus of the refurbishment was to create a community within the serviced apartments, rather than simply providing accommodation.

The company has transformed the residents’ lounge into a co-working space with a Starbucks self-service kiosk. Great World Residences is part of the larger Great World mixed-use development, which includes a six-storey shopping mall, two 18-storey office towers, and a 35-storey serviced apartment tower.

Great World Residences offers 304 units ranging from 800 sq ft one-bedroom apartments to 2,200 sq ft four-bedroom apartments. As a short-stay serviced apartment complex, the minimum stay period is seven days.

Cher shares that the majority of their residents are corporate clients from various industries such as tech, banking and finance, maritime, and fast-moving consumer goods. The length of stay for some residents can be as long as one to two years. This is due to the trend towards blended living, where business and leisure travel overlap.

With many guests travelling with their families or pets, Great World Residences provides complimentary infant-care necessities, including high chairs, cots and children’s utensils. Some rooms also cater to children, with a single murphy bed that can be transformed into a study desk for schoolwork or a separate office for tenants without children. All units come with complimentary Wi-Fi.

The monthly rates start from $10,800 for a two-bedroom apartment and $13,800 for a three-bedroom. Cher notes that choosing a serviced apartment over renting a condo unit can be a more economical option as it offers similar amenities and the convenience of a kitchen.

Cher explains that serviced apartments have evolved beyond only being an alternative to hotels. It is now the preferred choice for long-stay business travelers and those looking for personalized and flexible housing options. To further enhance the living experience, Great World Residences has established partnerships with various outlets at the neighboring Great World shopping center. Allgreen Properties owns both developments.

Situated in the prime River Valley precinct, the property is within easy reach of many lifestyle enclaves, including Robertson Quay, Clarke Quay, and Tiong Bahru. Great World Residences is also accessible via an underground walkway to the Great World MRT station along the Thomson-East Coast line.

Cher says that the rebranding efforts aim to establish Great World Residences as the flagship serviced apartment and highlight the team’s capabilities. He adds that the team is open to expansion opportunities in Singapore and Malaysia, whether through investment acquisitions or management contracts. However, they are cautious about venturing into long-stay serviced apartments with a minimum stay period of three months, as it could limit the potential tenant pool. According to Cher, nearly 60% of their guests stay for less than three months, and those who stay longer often do so due to unforeseen circumstances or delays. Hence, the team is hesitant to commit to such a long minimum stay period from the start.
