Mg Real Estate Appoints Jason Leong Fund Manager Asia Property Fund

Laura Jockers has been appointed as the new global head of ESG for M&G Real Estate, the real estate investment arm of M&G Prudential, as it commits to embedding sustainable practices across its investment portfolio, the firm announced in a release on Oct 21.

Investment firm M&G Real Estate has chosen Jason Leong as the fund manager for its flagship M&G Asia Property Fund. The fund, valued at US$7 billion ($9.04 billion) as of March 31, holds the distinction of being the largest open-ended, core real estate fund in the region, with a proven track record spanning 20 years.

In a press release on May 6, it was revealed that Leong’s appointment is part of M&G’s long-term succession plan. Having joined M&G two years ago as the deputy fund manager, he has worked closely with his predecessor, Richard van den Berg, in managing the fund’s investment portfolio growth and composition.

During his time with the company, Leong has led several strategic acquisitions and developments, including acquiring a 50% stake in the US$135.2 million Ingleburn Logistics Park in Sydney and completing M&G’s first investment in a business park office in Singapore, the Surbana Jurong Campus. With more than 25 years of experience in real estate investment and management in the Asia Pacific region, Leong brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new role.

Van den Berg, who has been with M&G for over a decade and has a total of 36 years of experience in real estate investment management, has announced his retirement at the end of June. He expressed his confidence in Leong’s abilities to lead the team and continue delivering results for clients.

Jing Dong Lai, CEO of M&G Real Estate Asia, also expressed his confidence in Leong, saying, “Jason’s extensive experience and collaboration with Richard have been instrumental in driving the performance of the M&G Asia Property Fund over the last two years.” He believes that Leong is well-positioned to lead the fund’s strategy into its next phase, further driving growth and exploring new opportunities in the ever-evolving real estate market.

M&G Real Estate is the 11th largest real estate manager outside of the US. With nine offices in Europe and four in the Asia Pacific, the company is committed to embedding sustainable practices across its investment portfolio. In line with this, Laura Jockers has been appointed as the new global head of ESG, as announced in a release on Oct 21. As M&G Real Estate forges ahead with deals worth US$1.8 billion in the Asia Pacific amidst global uncertainties, this commitment to sustainability is a crucial step towards ensuring sustainable urban development.
